SYNPOL®
Product Overview
SYNPOL® is a special ABB-designed device that protects and controls the
AC generator and related systems connected to the main busbar on AC marine networks.
The unit is galvanically insulated from the network via current and voltage
transformers.
The main advantages of SYNPOL® are:
- Because of its modular structure, SYNPOL® is independent of any central
control unit.
- SYNPOL®’s independence provides reliable ship services.
- SYNPOL®’s modular structure also means that each generator can be
connected to its own SYNPOL® unit, reflecting normal electrical ship systems.
Important Functions of SYNPOL®:
- Short-circuit protection, remaining effective even in case of a failure of the
entire supply voltage of the device. Reconnection protection by manual resetting.
- Selective disconnection of a faulty alternator.
- Overload protection by over-current recording.
- Reverse power protection.
- Disconnection of non-essential consumers in case of overloading.
- Synchronizing of the alternator to the busbar.
- Automatic speed adaptation of the diesel engine to the busbar frequency.
- Under and over-voltage monitoring.
- Under-frequency monitoring.
- Supervision of the current transformer circuit regarding disconnections.
- Self-monitoring of the supply voltages.
- Output measuring also for non-sine-shaped voltages and currents, especially
for thyristor loads via measurement of the actual value (output signal ±10
V/DC for moving coil instrument connection.
- Permanent storage and indication of all releasing functions.
- Supply of the under-voltage coil 220 V/DC with support of the supply in case
of voltage drop caused by a short circuit. The release of the trip works directly
with the under-voltage coil and is fixed wired in the unit.
- Output of all signals in parallel distribution for external signalling or for
working up in the machine alarm system.
- Actual load sharing of any number of generator sets feeding on a common busbar,
with automatic frequency regulation to constant frequency, or under consideration
of the frequency status of the speed regulator of the generating set.
- Loadfree disconnection of the alternator circuit breaker.
